वेलेंटाइन डे यानी प्यार का दिन। इस प्रेम करने वाले अपने प्यार का इजहार करते हैं। वेलेंटाइन डे का नाम सुनकर हर किसी के मन में हलचल सी होने लगती है। खासकर युवाओं के मन में। फरवरी का महीना आते ही माहौल खुशनुमा हो जाता है। इंतजार रहता है तो बस 14 फरवरी मतलब वेलेंटाइन डे का। वहीं फरवरी के पहले सप्ताह से ही बाजार सज जाते हैं, क्योंकि सात फरवरी से वेलेंटाइन वीक जो शुरू हो जाता है। इस सप्ताह के हर दिन का विशेष महत्व है। इसकी शुरुआत ‘रोज डे’ से होती है और आखिरी दिन ‘किस डे’ मनाया जाता है। इन 7 दिनों के बाद 8 वें दिन वैलेंटाइन डे मनाया जाता है। लेकिन क्या आप जानते हैं इसकी शुरूआत कब हुई और क्यों मनाया जाता है। वेलेंटाइन डे, यानी प्यार और प्यार करने वालों को समर्पित प्यार भरा यह दिन खुशियों का प्रतीक माना जाता है और हर प्यार करने वाले शख्स के लिए यह खास दिन अलग ही अहमियत रखता है। प्यार के इजहार के तौर पर अपने जज्बातों को शब्दों में बयां करने के लिए इस दिन का प्यार के परवानों को बेसब्री से इंतजार होता है।

कहा जाता है कि ‘वेलेंटाइंस डे’ का नाम संत वेलेंटाइन के नाम पर रखा गया है। दरअसल रोम में तीसरी सदी में क्लॉडियस नाम के राजा का राज हुआ करता था। क्लॉडियस का मानना था कि विवाह करने से पुरुषों की शक्ति और बुद्धि खत्म हो जाती है। इसी के चलते उसने पूरे राज्य में यह आदेश जारी कर दिया कि उसका कोई भी सैनिक या अधिकारी शादी नहीं करेगा। लेकिन संत वेलेंटाइन ने क्लॉडियस के इस आदेश पर कड़ा विरोध जताया और पूरे राज्य में लोगों को विवाह करने के लिए प्रेरित किया। संत वेलेंटाइन ने अनेक सैनिकों और अधिकारियों का विवाह करवाया। अपने आदेश का विरोध देख आखिर क्लॉडियस ने 14 फरवरी सन 269 को संत वेलेंटाइन को फांसी पर चढ़वा दिया। तब से उनकी याद में यह दिन मनाया जाता है। माने तो प्यार करने वालों के लिए हर दिन खास होता है और अपने साथी से प्यार जताने के लिए दिन और तारीख मायने नहीं रखती लेकिन दौड़ती हुई जिंदगी के लिए आज का दिन मोहब्बत के नाम कर दिया गया। कई देशों में इस दिन को मनाया जाता हैं।

वैलेंटाइन वीक में हफ्ते के अलग-अलग दिन को अलग-अलग तरीके से मनाया जाता है। 7 फरवरी को रोज डे पर एक-दूसरे को गुलाब का फूल भेंट किया जाता है। 8 फरवरी को प्रपोज डे पर अपने प्यार का इजहार किया जाता है. 9 फरवरी को प्रेमी जोड़े एक-दूसरे को चॉकलेट देकर चॉकलेट डे के रूप में मनाते हैं। इसके बाद टेडी डे की बारी आती है, जिसमें टेडी बियर या इससे मिलते-जुलते सॉफ्ट टॉयज तोहफे में दिए जाते हैं।
11 फरवरी को प्रॉमिस डे पर प्यार की कसमें खाई जाती हैं, और एक-दूसरे का साथ निभाने के वादे किये जाते हैं। अब इतना सब होने के बाद एक हग तो बनता है। इसलिए 12 फरवरी को मनाया जाता है हग डे, और ठीक इसके अगले दिन यानी 13 फरवरी को किस डे और सबसे आखिर में 14 फरवरी को का दिन वैलेंटाइन डे के तौर पर मनाया जाता है।
